Mum in the BIG APPLE...

I have been extremely busy with work and school, so I apologize for being absent. My summer has been AWESOME!!! I had a visit from mum which was the best birthday gift a girl could want, wish dad could have come but maybe later in the year hopefully. While mum was here I played the good tour guide. On mums first night in the Big Apple we went to Cafeteria for a late dinner, this is my go to cafe as it is open 24/7 and has a great menu that never fails to please with deserts to die for.

The next day bright and early we set out to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, it was a beautiful day for it and after the walk we had a well deserved breakfast in Dumbo. Which is a fantastic area of Brooklyn filled with cafes, restaurants, art galleries and shops...

After breakfast and our little tour of Dumbo we took the East River Ferry back to the city, which is expensive but a great way to see Manhattan and how big it really is. After we got off we headed to Midtown in search of bed sheets and covers (my sheets were not up to mum's high standard). Then after we walked from 34th st to the Flat Iron District for what can only be described as heaven on a plate at Eataly also a must!

The next day and not so well rested I showed mum how to walk from my apartment to Central Park, which is very close by. Mum got addicted to doing this every morning and happened to make some new friends at a little cafe in a church on the Upper East Side. Then it was off to the New York Public Library which I must add is absolutely stunning. Followed by lunch at Balthazar another one of my favorite cafes they do an awesome eggs Benedict!

after the library and lunch it was SHOPPING IN SOHO :) no photo's were taken. When it comes to shopping all focus must be maintained on the oh so pretty clothes, bags and shoes. But I will be doing a two part goodies haul as I have accumulated so many things over the past few months.

Mum and I had planned a little getaway to Boston during her first few days in New York, and I was super excited to escape the big smoke. We chose to catch the Mega Bus so we could see the country side, but in reality there was no country side just miles of highway but still a load of fun. We stayed at the Liberty Hotel which was a converted jail and still maintained some of the old jails facade, I loved it! Boston is a small clean city nice and peaceful with beautiful manicured gardens and preppy all American folks. Very different from the crazies in NYC!!! I really did fall in love with the brownstones. It was like stepping back in time, they even had street lights which used gas!!!

After 3 days in Boston we were both ready to head back to New York. As my birthday was looming Mum wanted to celebrate it early, as she would be back in Sydney before July the 8th. So what better way to celebrate your 27th birthday then a show on Broadway. We saw "nice work if you can get it" and then had dinner at the Russian Tea Room (I have always wanted to go to the RTR) it was a perfect night, one that I will never forget. That day before the show we high tailed it to FAO Schwartz to pick up Jacob's Lego sets which he had pre picked before mums departure, spoilt little boy but the best boy on planet earth. Mum and I re kindled our youth with silly little hats...

Mum's visit was coming to an end, but not before a chocolate coma trip to Max Brenner's at Union Square...

I loved having mum visit and miss her so much! Like I said before and I will say it again you never realise just how much your family means to you until you move away. So make the most of your family while you have them. I am looking forward now to having my sister and best friend Justine and my favorite nephew Jacob coming to visit in December, I hope dad will come to.
